The Nigerian presidency has come under heavy criticism after the President Bola Tinubu Media Centre shared an artificial intelligence (AI)-generated image depicting underfire first lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, frying and selling akara.
The image, posted on the Presidency’s official social media accounts on Friday, showed the First Lady standing behind a roadside akara stand wearing an apron with the inscription, “Iya Alakara, fuelling the nation with love.”
The post followed remarks by the First Lady during an interview in which she defended small-scale businesses such as frying akara, roasting corn and producing kuli-kuli as viable means of earning a living.
According to her, such businesses require little start-up capital, adding that the Federal Government was supporting beneficiaries with grants rather than loans.
