If, by some miracle, the tired, bloated and ethically-tainted Labor government of beleaguered Victorian Premier Jacinta Allan manages to hold on in November’s election, she can thank one person above all: the for-now Liberal state upper house MP, Moira Deeming. In her tempestuous four-year term, Deeming has resembled English cricketer Geoff Boycott: playing for herself and not the team; willing to run out teammates to preserve her wicket; and, indeed, to blow up the whole team if its interests do not coincide with hers. As a first-term MP, she has shown little policy enthusiasm outside protecting biological women’s rights, nor shown ministerial potential should Liberal leader Jess Wilson and her Coalition win government in November. Instead, she has contributed little but ongoing internal chaos.Subscribe to gift this articleGift 5 articles to anyone you choose each month when you subscribe.Subscribe nowAlready a subscriber?
