Caracas (EFE).- The Speaker of the Venezuelan Parliament Jorge Rodríguez reported on Saturday that the death toll from the double earthquakes that struck Venezuela on Jun. 24 rose to 2,954, while the number of injured increased to 16,592.According to official figures, 6,462 people were rescued, and 16,309 people lost their homes, leading to the establishment of 80 temporary camps.Rodríguez, who is the brother of Venezuelan Acting President Delcy Rodríguez, stated on Telegram that 856 buildings were damaged and 190 collapsed.In addition, 3,281 international rescue workers and 26,984 registered volunteers are assisting in the relief efforts.Authorities have set up a telephone number and digital platform to report missing persons, but have not updated the number of missing individuals.As of Thursday, Jun. 25, one day after the earthquakes, at least 157 people were missing, according to official figures.Nobel Peace Prize laureate María Corina Machado is promoting a website developed by technical experts and civil society organizations that enables people to report missing relatives.The Speaker of Parliament added that 942 aftershocks were recorded following the earthquakes on Jun. 24.The double earthquake is the deadliest that Venezuela has experienced in the last century.Previously, in Jul. 1967, an earthquake struck near Caracas, killing 245 people, injuring thousands, and causing extensive property damage.The recent earthquakes affected Caracas and six other northern states, with La Guaira the hardest hit.
