On Friday evening, giant purple signs appeared on screens outside Madison Square Garden: “JusT&T Married!”Swift’s publicist Tree Paine told The Washington Post in a statement, “Taylor Swift & Travis Kelce Are Married!”The statement added that Swift’s younger brother, Austin, served as her “man of honor” and that Kelce’s older brother, Jason, was his best man; the couple had no other attendants. Adam Sandler, who attended Swift’s Eras Tour in Los Angeles and was Kelce’s “Happy Gilmore 2″ co-star, officiated the ceremony. Both Swift and Kelce wore Christian Dior Haute Couture for the ceremony, along with custom Christian Louboutin shoes. Swift wore Cartier jewelry.Get a dash of perspective along with the trending news of the day in a very readable format.By signing up you consent to receive the above newsletter from Postmedia Network Inc.A welcome email is on its way. The building’s X account indicated it was a nod to the nuptials, with a post that read, “Her something blue.”On Friday afternoon, hundreds of curious onlookers stopped to snap photos and hang out at the barricades around Madison Square Garden that were put in place for the event, which has consistently been likened to a royal wedding. A steady stream of black SUVs and well-dressed celebrities made their way toward a heavily guarded area, where Swift and Kelce are hosting a huge celebration. Among those spotted in the vicinity: Hugh Grant, Ethan Hawke, Mariska Hargitay, Benson Boone and Abby Wambach. But the frenzy surrounding the nuptials is exactly what you would expect when the pop star with the highest-grossing tour in history marries a three-time Super Bowl champion who is also one of the most popular players in the NFL. The couple has been a global media sensation since they started dating three years ago.Swift traveled to many of Kelce’s football games, including two Super Bowls, while Kelce was a frequent presence at Swift’s record-breaking Eras Tour. Last year, Swift sat for an unprecedented two-hour interview on the Kelce brothers’ podcast, “New Heights,” and the couple talked about how they first met, what drew them to each other and how they dealt with widespread scrutiny of their relationship.“This is sort of what I’ve been writing songs about wanting to happen to me since I was a teenager,” Swift said as they detailed their love story. Kelce added, “I’m the luckiest man in the world.”Though Swift and Kelce didn’t confirm anything publicly about what was about to happen Friday at MSG, photographers have been stationed at MSG all week in anticipation, snapping photos of employees carrying in equipment and boxes of food. The Associated Press reported the couple donated millions to charities this week ahead of the event.Singer Dolly Parton posted a video on Instagram Friday thanking the couple for a $2 million donation to her Imagination Library, a book-gifting program for children, and joking that she would like them to donate their first-born child, too. “That is going to be one special baby,” she said, before breaking into her famous song, “I Will Always Love You.”A large white tent stretched down West 31st Street, with a black curtain blocking the entrance. Some of the windows of MSG were blocked with dark-pink curtains; nearby, a worker wheeled an enormous pallet of water bottles into the venue. A truck for an ice sculpture company was seen entering a restricted road.Around 3 p.m., a line of black cars with tinted windows started lining up down Seventh Avenue to get into the covered tent. Passengers then exited inside the tent, which was shielded by black curtains for privacy. (The curtains were billowing in the wind, so occasionally a glimpse of a person could be seen.)By 4:30 p.m., the crowds behind the barricades had grown, despite the fact that most of the guests were still not visible. Occasionally, some walked to the entrance outside the tent, such as Wambach and her wife, Glennon Doyle. A loud “Wooo!” captured people’s attention, but it was someone from an Australian news outlet who was encouraging fans to cheer. An hour later, the line of cars going into the venue had ended, though hundreds of people were still milling around the barricades and streets near MSG. While fairly calm, occasionally yells of congratulations could be heard. Some camera crews started to take down equipment, though plenty of photographers remained. Around 8 p.m., a sudden thunderstorm erupted. Here’s a brief guide to the couple’s journey to MSG, as well as more details about the guest list:In summer 2023, Swift was traveling on the first leg of the Eras Tour. Her mother, Andrea, saw a story online about how a tight end for the Kansas City Chiefs had said on his podcast that he wanted to give Swift a friendship bracelet with his phone number on it at her Kansas City, Missouri, concert – but he wasn’t allowed backstage. Andrea was intrigued, and after conferring with a cousin, a Chiefs fan who spoke highly of him, she encouraged her daughter to give Kelce a chance.Swift and her mother told this story in her “End of an Era” docuseries last year; at the time, after going through some romantic disappointments, Swift wasn’t sure whether her level of fame would allow her to find genuine love. In the docuseries, she recalled thinking, “Nothing works. There’s no one for me in the world.” She was skeptical about dating an athlete, but Andrea urged her to try something different.Obviously, things worked out. Swift and Kelce, who both turn 37 later this year, realized they had a lot in common, from being close to their families to performing in stadiums. “Greatest surprise of my life,” Swift said. Kelce proposed in August 2025 in the backyard of his Kansas home, which a crew transformed into a bucolic garden setting while Swift and Kelce were inside filming an episode of his “New Heights” podcast.Once Kelce re-signed to play with the Chiefs, fans assumed that the wedding would happen before the 2026-27 NFL preseason really got underway.Page Six initially said that the couple planned to marry on June 13 at a fancy venue in Watch Hill, Rhode Island, near Swift’s estate, where she has held many celebrity-studded Fourth of July parties. But a wedding planner pushed back against the location, and, shortly after, “Entertainment Tonight” said that the wedding would be on July 3, in New York City. The New York Times reported that (according to a memo sent to local police) a 100-person rehearsal dinner would take place Thursday evening, followed by the wedding celebration late Friday afternoon with around 1,000 guests, beginning with a cocktail hour and going until early Saturday. Several vehicles with blacked-out windows entered a white security tent at the venue Thursday night, the Times reported. In April, the popular music podcast “Every Single Album” said that a rumor was going around Los Angeles: that Swift and Kelce would wed at Madison Square Garden. Many refused to believe that the singer would let any details leak about such a milestone – let alone get married in an impersonal, windowless arena in Midtown Manhattan. But in early June, TMZ and Page Six reported that MSG was the venue, leading some to reluctantly accept this could be the case. Others still insist that it’s all an elaborate decoy to misdirect the media and that some of the clues (such as a forklift driver at the arena this week who wore a “Taylor Swift Carpenters” shirt) are part of a ruse. The Times reported that a permit was filed to close streets around MSG from July 2 through the middle of the day on July 4 and that “hundreds” of police officers will be patrolling the area. Even those who don’t like the idea of MSG as the venue have to admit that it would help for security and privacy’s sake, with all those underground arrival tunnels and no way for drone cameras or paparazzi to snap any photos. (“MSG is a literal fortress,” a wedding planner told The Washington Post last week.)As the hours ticked closer to the start of Friday’s event, more barricades started to go up around Madison Square Garden, to the dismay of some commuters who were not happy about the inconvenience. (Others wandered around asking what in the world was going on, with genuinely no idea about the wedding.)In the early afternoon, members of the media outnumbered the Swift fans who were gathered, patiently waiting for something to happen or to catch a glimpse of the celebrity guests – though some wondered if the nearly 100 degree heat was keeping curious observers away. One streamer was spotted filming himself trying to say “Taylor Swift” 100,000 times. While the events have been secretive, the celebrities milling around New York have been hard to miss.Swift’s longtime friend Abigail Anderson has been spotted, as well as her publicist Tree Paine.Los Angeles Rams player Trent McDuffie, a former teammate of Kelce’s, showed off his black-tie attire on his fiancée’s Instagram story. Meanwhile, tight ends George Kittle, Zach Ertz and Robert Tonyan Jr. were spotted on a morning stroll to the gym.Later on Friday, as Sprinter vans and black SUVs lined up outside the venue, some celebrities were photographed outside MSG: Wambach and Doyle; Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Cooper Kupp and his wife, Anna Marie Kupp; Chiefs defensive tackle Chris Jones; and Boone, who once opened for Swift on her Eras Tour. Actor Jason Sudeikis was also seen, as was Hargitay, waving to the crowds from an SUV.Rapper Nelly posted a video showing him and his wife Ashanti inside a car with a shout-out to the couple, describing the wedding as “incredible.” Celebrities including Paul McCartney, Selena Gomez, Gigi Hadid and Bradley Cooper, Laura Dern, Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks were later seen leaving the venue. On Graham Norton’s talk show last year, Swift said she felt the most stressful weddings were the ones where the couple had to agonize over a small guest list and debate who would make the cut. So the reported 1,000-person party makes sense, given that she joked at the time that she would invite “anyone I’ve ever talked to.”TMZ has reported that guests signed nondisclosure agreements, and others say there will be a “no phones” policy at the festivities, which will include quite the mix of music and sports stars. Some brave souls confirmed their attendance, including actress-singer Suki Waterhouse, who was the opening act for a London show on the Eras Tour. A Kansas City men’s clothing shop happily posted about fitting the Chiefs coach, Andy Reid, for a suit for the wedding, even though Reid himself refused to confirm anything when asked by a reporter.Elsewhere, observers are left to parse for possible clues from Swift pals, such as country star Kenny Chesney canceling his Friday-Saturday Las Vegas Sphere residency dates with a vague explanation.Taylor Swinton and Noah White in Washington contributed to this report, which will be updated as more details emerge. Our website is the place for the latest breaking news, exclusive scoops, longreads and provocative commentary.
