Mason Greenwood was expected to leave Marseille this summer after two years in France and it appears that his next club has potentially be decided with an offer due to be lodged13:17, 04 Jul 2026Italian giants Roma are set to lodge an opening bid for former Manchester United man Mason Greenwood after agreeing personal terms. The striker was expected to leave Marseille this summer after two years in France. He has scored 48 goals in 81 games for the Ligue 1 side after joining from United for £26.7m. That followed Greenwood being charged with attempted rape, controlling and coercive behaviour before those charges were droppedBut it appears that an exit is now on the cards. According to Sky Italia, Roma are readying their opening bid for Greenwood and will be prepared to table around €45m (£38.5m) including bonuses and a sell-on clause for his services. It is suggested that an agreement has already been reached on personal terms with Greenwood’s camp. Should a fee be agreed, he would put pen to paper on a five-year deal at the Stadio Olimpico.Despite that, an agreement has yet to be found between Roma and Marseille, with the French side holding out for more. It is believed that they want to secure around €55m but would be willing to negotiate on that fee.Greenwood, 24, appeared to suggest he would be happy to stay with Marseille when speaking in May. Speaking at the Ligue 1 awards ceremony, he said: "This season has been difficult at times for us as a team, especially in the last few months But, individually, I think I've had a good season."There are some incredible players in this Team of the Year, so it's nice for me to get this award. Ligue 1 is an amazing league. We play some incredible games and, to my mind, it's one of the best leagues I have played in. I hope I will be able to stay put here."With his club future now appearing to being close to being resolved, Greenwood will now need to focus on his international allegiance. England boss Thomas Tuchel confirmed earlier this year that he was no longer being considered."I have not spoken to him until now," Tuchel said. "I have not spoken to him or his camp."My understanding was that he tries to play for Jamaica so we didn't give it another thought. He was not in the mix at the moment and he is not in our thoughts for our team."But former Jamaica boss Steve McLaren then confirmed that Greenwood hadn’t officially declared for the nation. He said: “We acquired a passport and we expected him to be coming to this camp.“But in a conversation with his family [we found out] he's not going to commit at this time to anybody. He's taking his time over that, so it's a little bit disappointing. We probably have to be more patient, but we will keep the contact, we will keep pursuing him because I know from my conversations with Mason and his family that he loves Jamaica, respects Jamaica."He wants to concentrate on club football and not commit to an international team at the present moment. We have to respect that however much we've worked hard to get him here for these camps. So, who knows in the future."Join our new WhatsApp community and receive your daily dose of Mirror Football content.
