Kimi Antonelli fought back to claim victory in the British Grand Prix sprint race to extend his lead over George Russell and Lewis Hamilton on the drivers’ championship. Hamilton started the race on pole position and held the Mercedes of Antonelli at bay through the opening lap with the other cars scrapping for position behind them. Antonelli stuck with Hamilton for eight laps before making his move on the Hanger straight and weaving past the Ferrari to take control of the race. Hamilton had to marshall his battery power and couldn’t launch a counter attack to recover the lead and claim victory. That ensured Antonelli won a sprint race for the very first time and takes a 43 point lead into Sunday’s Grand Prix.
