An APC youth has defended First Lady Oluremi Tinubu’s advice on petty trading, saying it was better for women to sell akara than to be tagged prostitutes.
He spoke at a press conference in Imo House, Abuja, called to address the purported replacement of Adamu Tanko in the Gurara Federal Constituency of Niger State.
The youth leader, whose name could not be verified as at the time of publication, wore a cap with a bold white emblem on the front, similar to the caps associated with President Bola Tinubu, as he made the comments while responding to backlash trailing the First Lady’s earlier remarks encouraging Nigerians to embrace small businesses such as frying akara and selling kuli-kuli.
A video of his comments, recorded by News Century TV on Friday, has since gone viral on social media platforms, including Facebook, Instagram and X, with his cap drawing almost as much attention online as his remarks.
“Is it not better to be noble than to be doing filthy things? It better they know you as an akara seller than to be known as an armed robber?” he asked.
