Relebohile Mofokeng proved to be an important player for Orlando Pirates and Bafana Bafana in the No 10 position.

It is often said, “You cannot cheat football.” Looking at the trajectory of Relebohile Mofokeng, I cannot help but feel that football is gradually repaying his honesty and dedication to the game. Long may it continue.

Mofokeng sealed a move to Jupiler Pro League side Royal Union Saint-Gilloise this week, signing a four-year deal. The news sent waves of euphoria across the country, with the football fraternity – myself included – overjoyed for him.

The 21-year-old completely deserved this transfer. On and off the field, he has done it all in South African football over the past few years, proving that he is not in the sport for the fame, but for his talent and a deep love for the game.

Mofokeng is one of the many prodigies produced by the revered School of Excellence in recent years. His quality was further polished within Orlando Pirates’ development structures, where he starred in the DStv Diski Challenge under coach Joseph Makhanya.
