Alpha, the latest addition to the Yash Raj Films Spy Universe, has finally arrived in theatres. Headlined by Alia Bhatt and Sharvari, the film created history as the franchise's first female-led spy action thriller. Ever since it was announced in 2024, the film had generated considerable excitement among fans. However, after its release, the movie has received mixed reviews from both critics and audiences, and that response appears to have shown in its opening-day performance.Alpha box office collection day-wiseAccording to early estimates by Sacnilk, Alpha collected an estimated Rs 9 crore net at the Indian box office on its first day. The film's India gross collection stands at around Rs 10.80 crore, while it has earned approximately Rs 5 crore from overseas markets. This takes its worldwide gross collection to nearly Rs 15.80 crore on Day 1.Released across 7,534 shows nationwide, Alpha enjoyed a wide release in cinemas. Despite its large screen count and the buzz surrounding the film before release, its opening numbers have fallen short of expectations. The Day 1 collection also makes it the lowest opener in the YRF Spy Universe so far.The YRF Spy Universe has delivered several blockbuster openings over the years. Compared to those films, Alpha has had a much slower start. The previous release from the franchise, War 2, starring Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR, collected Rs 52 crore net on its opening day despite receiving mixed reviews. It was released across 19,455 shows. Meanwhile, Shah Rukh Khan's Pathaan continues to hold the record for the franchise's biggest opening, earning Rs 57 crore net on Day 1.Although Alpha has recorded the smallest opening among the YRF Spy Universe films, the makers will now be hoping that positive word of mouth over the weekend helps improve its collections. The film's advance booking had also hinted at a slow start. Before release, Alpha registered an India net advance booking of around Rs 1.58 crore, with the gross figure crossing Rs 2 crore after including blocked seats. While anticipation around the film remained high online, it did not translate into strong pre-release ticket sales.Better start than Alia Bhatt's JigraWhile Alpha has underperformed compared to other YRF Spy Universe titles, it has managed to outperform Alia Bhatt's previous theatrical release. Her last film, Jigra, released in 2024, collected Rs 4.55 crore net on its opening day while playing across 5,779 shows. In comparison, Alpha has comfortably crossed that figure by collecting Rs 9 crore net on Day 1, making it a stronger opener than Jigra. All about AlphaDirected by Shiv Rawail, Alpha stars Alia Bhatt and Sharvari as the lead spy agents. The film also features Bobby Deol as the antagonist and Anil Kapoor in a key role. One of the biggest talking points for fans is the special appearance of Hrithik Roshan, who reprises his popular character Kabir from the War films. His cameo has already become one of the most discussed aspects of the movie among audiences. The release is also significant for Sharvari, who currently has two films running in theatres at the same time. Before Alpha, she was seen in Imtiaz Ali's Main Vaapas Aaunga, which continues its theatrical run. With the opening day now behind it, all eyes will be on the film's weekend collections. Stay tuned!
