Justifying the arrest of DMK MLA and former Minister Anitha R. Radhakrishnan, Law Minister R. Nirmalkumar said the law would take its course and there was no pressure or retaliatory tactics by the government.Speaking to the press here on Friday, he said only in the past, there were behind-the-scene adjustments whenever there was a police action. Whenever the DMK or the AIADMK was in power and some of their functionaries were arrested, there used to be ‘settlements’ of different types. Now, there was no such thing, he said.Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay was striving to give a new meaning to the lives of common man. With the objective of doing business with ease, various cumbersome procedures and kickbacks, which were common in the past, were removed. The TVK would not allow corruption in any public office. The TVK leadership, office-bearers and Ministers were accountable only to the people. There would not be any scope for corruption, he said. The DMK attributed false reasons to Mr. Radhakrishnan’s arrest. A person like him deserved to be punished as per law. The government would not interfere in the investigation or trigger any agency to register false cases against anyone, Mr. Nirmalkumar said.It was fake news that the TVK urged Mr. Radhakrishnan to come into its fold after resigning from the DMK. “We have rejected many people, who expressed willingness to join us. Only after careful scrutiny, the others were admitted,” he added. Published - July 03, 2026 11:49 pm IST
