Netflix's 'phenomenal' series has been labelled a 'teenage Black Mirror'18:08, 03 Jul 2026Fans compare the series to titles like Black Mirror and say it needs to be watched by more people.A 'super creepy' horror series hidden away on Netflix has been praised for being able to 'fix your TV slump'. Girl From Nowhere is an anthology series that originates from Thailand and was initially released back in 2018.All episodes have been available on Netflix since 2021, however it has gone largely undiscovered by many users. One subscriber recently took to the Netflix subreddit, requesting a recommendation from others. In it, they admitted that they needed something to really hook them after finding themselves in a bit of a TV funk. They posted: "What are some shows that helped you get out of a TV SLUMP? I rewatched X-Men '97 Season 1 and the new episodes yesterday with a friend now I've just been having no desire to watch anything."Many replies suggested other animated series, however one of the most popular replies urged them to check out Girl From Nowhere. They reasoned: "Do you want to try something new? Could try the original Girl From Nowhere series. Not ' The Girl From Nowhere: The Reset', that's a whole other thing."Girl From Nowhere revolves around Nanno, an enigmatic girl who transfers to different private schools in Thailand and exposes the students and faculty's stories of lies, secrets, and hypocrisy. Nanno on occasion lies to provoke others. She is revealed to be a mischievous immortal entity, punishing wrongdoers for their crimes and misdeeds. In Season 2, Nanno meets her match in newfound rival Yuri, who has a different, more revenge -focused ideology and wants to take over Nanno's duties. Both seasons of the series are available on Netflix. As is The Reset, which is not a continuation of the previous seasons but is a standalone story set in a new universe. It boasts a fan score of 83% on website Rotten Tomatoes with those who have watched it labelling it as a 'teenage Black Mirror ' and a 'hidden gem'.One fan claimed: "Very naturalistic setting And performances, but insert this super creepy lead actress. Definitely uncomfortable, which is a good thing for a piece of art like this. I like that it doesn't give away where it's going as a series right away."Another added: "Each episode tells a different story, which keeps the show fresh and unpredictable. The themes can be intense, but the storytelling is clever and makes you think about morality and consequences."Someone else described their surprise upon discovering the series. They said: "I heard good things about it so I turned on Netflix and basically binged the whole show within a day."While one person shared their verdict and posted: "Phenomenal. This is the most masterfully constructed piece of art I've seen in the genre. I am awestruck. It's a shame because this deserves so much more praise and recognition especially from bigger platforms and people and critics."If only people looked over the language barrier they would find out about the actual hidden gems like this one. This is truly, a masterpiece. No words. Watch it and you'll feel the same. Having to twist your mind and try hard to understand this so deeply meaningful work if art is itself is what makes it even more beautiful to the naked eye.Article continues below"The writer the director, my gosh how I wish I could give you my review upfront. Such an eye opener, the world needs to watch this series. This is, again, phenomenal."Girl From Nowhere is streaming on Netflix.
