Fenerbahce have announced that the club has reached an agreement with defender Nathan Ake over a move from Manchester City. The Turkish club released a statement on Friday to say it had ‘reached an agreement’ to sign the Netherlands international, who, they say, has signed a contract with them.City have not yet confirmed an agreement is in place for the departure of the 31-year-old defender, who they value around £8.5million ($11.4m).The Athletic reported in June that Ake was set to depart the Etihad Stadium this summer, with one year remaining on his contract. He featured in three of the Netherlands’ four games at the World Cup, starting two, but was replaced in the 71st minute of their last-32 tie against Morocco which ended in a penalty shootout defeat on Monday. The Dutch defender played a reduced role for Pep Guardiola’s side in the 2025-26 season, starting just six Premier League matches. He was linked with a possible departure in January, but stayed for the second half of the season as City contended with injuries to Ruben Dias, Josko Gvardiol and John Stones.Ake made 177 appearances over six years at City, and was a regular member of Guardiola’s squad which lifted the treble in 2023. He played all 90 minutes in the 1-0 victory over Inter in the Champions League final. He has offered a versatile option in City’s backline, able to operate at left-back or in the centre.Having initially come through Feyenoord’s academy, Ake transferred to Chelsea’s youth ranks and made 17 first-team appearances before joining Bournemouth. He played minor roles in Chelsea winning the Europa League in 2013, the League Cup in 2015 and their last two Premier League titles.Ake became an integral player for Bournemouth over the following four years, making 121 appearances before joining City for £40 million. He went on to win four Premier League titles under Guardiola, alongside two FA Cups and three League Cups. His departure comes amid a summer of change at the Etihad, with Enzo Maresca replacing Guardiola in the dugout.Long-serving midfielder Bernardo Silva also left the club, and subsequently joined Real Madrid on a free transfer, while defender John Stones also departed.
