Lewis Capaldi performed to more than 80,000 fans across two nights at Blackweir Fields in Cardiff15:15, 03 Jul 2026Music is still very much the talk of Cardiff this week, with the Welsh capital riding high on the back of a hugely entertaining two-night stint from Lewis Capaldi. The Scottish singer wowed more than 80,000 fans over two evenings at Blackweir Fields on June 30 and July 1, putting on a pair of unforgettable performances that kept the city's summer gig season firmly on track.‌The sold-out shows featured an 18-song setlist, including all six of Capaldi's number one hits, as well as his viral cover of Britney Spears' 'Everytime'. Meanwhile, just a stone's throw away, Katy Perry was thrilling thousands of fans at Bute Park, within the grounds of Cardiff Castle.‌Gig-goers were spoilt for choice when it came to food, with vendors dishing up everything from Italian cuisine and duck to hot chicken and sweet treats. It also sparked the question of what the 28 year old might have tucked into during his two-night stay in the Welsh capital – and The Mirror may have just found out.‌It seems Capaldi may have dropped a hint about his preferred grub during his second show on Wednesday – and it's gloriously straightforward. During one of his many comedy-laced chats with the crowd, the singer gave a shout-out to The Spud Fam, though he initially mistakenly called the business Spud Man - the wildly popular TikTok sensation that boasts more than four million followers and over 115 million likes."I'm glad I'm here [in Cardiff] because today I had an excellent jacket potato for lunch from Spud Man at the back," he said in error. "No, not Spud Man, Spud Fam."Listen - it was delicious anyway, so if you're on your way out and they're still open, buy yourself a spud. No matter how hard life gets, we always have jacket potatoes is what I am trying to say."‌Content cannot be displayed without consentThe Spud Fam was amongst the food vendors trading at Blackweir Fields during the two-night event, dishing up everything from dirty fries and breakfast baps to loaded jacket potatoes. The well-loved street food operation is typically found at Aberafan Shopping Centre in Port Talbot. So what exactly did the Glasgow-born artist order? As revealed in a Facebook post by one of the owners, Jordanna Landeg, it was a somewhat unusual yet appetising-sounding mix. "He had cheese, beans and tuna on his jacket potato," she responded to a fan enquiring about the singer's choice.‌It's an uncomplicated combination, but one that delivers a nutritional boost, offering complex carbohydrates for energy, protein to aid muscle recovery, and fibre to help keep the body feeling satisfied – a perfect meal before an energetic performance on stage.Detailing the incident on TikTok, The Spud Fam explained: "So myself and one of the staff members were serving, we had a massive queue [on Wednesday] it was the busiest one out of all of them that we've done in Blackweir. And someone came over to us, which was Lewis's PA, and basically said is there any chance I can come to the front of the queue because Lewis wants a spud, and obviously he had to go on stage, so he couldn't wait.Article continues below"So we were like yeah, of course, but like afterwards, I was like, I doubt that is actually Lewis. I thought it was somebody just trying to have us on and jump the queue, but it was actually for Lewis."We didn't know, we didn't have a clue, we didn't meet him, and we would have loved to have met him. Because she said it was Lewis, I was like, oh, tell him you can have it free from The Spud Fam, but he insisted on paying with his card. It was just such a surreal moment for us."
