The Additional District and Sessions (Special POCSO) Court FTSC-1 has sentenced a 30-year-old man to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment for abducting and repeatedly raping a 17-year-old girl. The convict, identified as Nandappa, son of Mahadev Kattimani, is a resident of Rustampur village in Chincholi taluk, Kalaburagi.Justice S.L. Chavan pronounced the judgment, finding the accused guilty under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.According to the prosecution, the victim’s parents worked as labourers at a polishing centre in Kallur Road village, falling under the jurisdiction of the Miriyan Police Station. The convict had befriended the minor girl and lured her under the pretext of love and marriage.On the night of February 14, 2025, the accused abducted the victim from her house. Before this, he had allegedly forced himself upon her on three to four occasions when she was alone at home, fully aware that she was a minor.The investigation was completed, and the chargesheet was filed by the PSI of Miriyan Police Station, Madivalappa, and Circle Inspector Kapiladev. Police personnel Lakshmikanth and Parashuram were instrumental in properly producing the witnesses before the court. Special Public Prosecutor Shanthaveera B. Thuppad argued the case effectively on behalf of the State, successfully proving the guilt of the accused through solid testimonial and documentary evidence.The court sentenced the convict to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of ₹25,000 under Section 6 of the POCSO Act, with a sentence of six months of simple imprisonment for defaulting on the payment. He was also fined an additional ₹25,000 under Section 332(b) of the BNS. Failing to pay the same would attract another three months of simple imprisonment.The court also directed the Legal Services Authority to provide compensation of ₹5,00,000 to the victim within one month from the date of the judgment.
