However, when their daughter Katie goes missing from their home it tears the family apart.Eight years later, Charlie and Larissa have moved out of the country but receive a shock phone call that their daughter has been found mummified - but somehow still alive - inside an ancient sarcophagus. Their relief is short-lived after they bring her home and find that something is seriously wrong with their daughter. The film was helmed by Irish filmmaker Lee Cronin whose other directing credits include Evil Dead Rise and upcoming release, Evil Dead Burn. Ahead of its release, Cronin teased: "It’s an insane mashup to suggest, but [The Mummy is] almost one part Poltergeist and one part Se7en."While critics awarded the film a relatively low Rotten Tomatoes score at 46 per cent, fans were much more impressed. At time of writing it boasts an audience rating of 72 per cent."Best horror movie since The Exorcist. Kept us on the edge of our seats," gushed one fan of the film. A second added: "It's probably the most scariest movie I've have ever seen."Meanwhile a third horror fan remarked: "As scary as The Exorcist! Very Gore! Super, super scary." Another penned: "If you liked Evil Dead Rise you’ll like this one too."They continued: "This movie was so freaking DISGUSTING and nasty. So good though. From skin peeling, nasty toes, and bodily fluid it had me literally gagging. Be warned if sensitive because this was just grooossss. Ugh. Bravo.""We really liked it! Very intense. Way better than some that were rated better like Smile 2! That one was bad!" yet another fan declared.Article continues belowWith the film arriving on HBO Max today (July 3) would-be viewers can make up their own minds on whether they have a strong enough stomach to tune in.Lee Cronin's The Mummy is now available to stream on HBO Max.Choose Daily Mirror as a 'Preferred Source' on Google News for quick access to the news you value.Horror MoviesFilmsEntertainment
