Former Minister Gudivada Amarnath on Friday (July 3, 2026) alleged that the NDA government was attempting to claim ownership of the Kadapa Steel Plant project, despite all major groundwork having been completed during the previous YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) regime.Addressing a press conference at the party office, Mr. Amarnath said the YSRCP government had allotted nearly 3,000 acres of land, sanctioned two TMC of water, provided power connectivity through an HT line, facilitated NH-67 connectivity and ensured railway access before issuing the required Government Order on December 21, 2022.He alleged that after coming to power in 2024, the NDA government had deliberately delayed the works, creating some drama and ensuring that the works stopped. This, he said, also led many industries to leave Andhra Pradesh. After two years, Mr. Naidu was laying the foundation stone for the same project for his political mileage, he alleged.Mr. Naidu had developed a habit of claiming credit for every major development in the State, from the setting up of HITEC City in Hyderabad to the spread of mobile technology, he said.Mr. Amarnath said he had personally appeared before the Commission as a responsible citizen, and that his earlier comments were purely political and not directed against women. He also alleged that the government had failed to fulfil its election promises, attract fresh investment or provide effective governance, despite completing nearly half of its five-year term.
