Russian pranksters known for targeting prominent political figures have released footage of a video call with Greece’s National Security Adviser Thanos Dokos after deceiving him into believing he was speaking with Ukrainian officials.

The video shows Dokos discussing a Ukrainian military sea drone that washed ashore near the western Greek island of Lefkada in May, Greece’s relations with Turkey and domestic political developments. During the conversation, he also predicts that Greece will hold a general election in the coming months.

The duo is well-known inside Russia having duped a string of politicians over the years, including Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, and, in 2022, Britain’s then-defense minister, Ben Wallace.

The incident prompted Greece’s main opposition party to call for Dokos’ resignation, describing it as “the only option” in a statement issued after the footage was released.
