Technology will continue to evolve but it should never replace compassion, Mayilvahanan Natarajan, senior orthopedic surgeon and former Vice-Chancellor of Tamil Nadu Dr. MGR Medical University said.“Technology is only a tool. Today it is robotics, tomorrow it will be Artificial Intelligence, and precision medicine the day after. Technology will continue to evolve. It should never replace compassion. Doctors can inspire confidence,” he said at an event organised by Prashanth Hospitals on Friday (July 3, 2026).“Affordability and accessibility must remain central to our mission,” he added. To young generation surgeons, Dr. Natarajan said that medicine is changing rapidly, and they should never stop learning, questioning, innovating, and more importantly, caring.On the occasion, Arumugam S., senior consultant, Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement Specialist and Head, Department of Robotic Joint Reconstruction, Prashanth Hospitals, was honoured for completing 1,000 robotic knee replacement surgeries. The hospital also launched its second fourth-generation robotic system on the occasion.Dr. Arumugam said that the field of robotic knee replacement is witnessing growth in India. The technology enables more precise surgeries and customised planning.Taking part in the event, actor Radikaa Sarathkumar pointed to the hundreds of healthcare opinions and myths circulating on social media. “Science has gone ahead, precision has gone ahead.
