Allegri was dismissed from Milan in May after failing to secure Champions League football Emmanuele Ciancaglini/Getty ImagesJuly 3, 2026 5:43 am EDT Updated Napoli have appointed Massimiliano Allegri as their new head coach following his exit from Milan.Allegri, 58, has signed a three-year contract with the Campania club, and succeeds Antonio Conte, who left his role this summer a year after winning the Serie A title.Napoli could not defend their title in 2025-26, however, and finished 11 points behind champions Inter.Allegri has been out of work since being dismissed in May after he failed to guide Milan to Champions League qualification, and a 2-1 final-day defeat to Cagliari allowed Como to overtake them to fourth place.He departed alongside sporting director Igli Tare, chief executive Giorgio Furlani and technical director Geoffrey Moncada, bringing an end to his second spell in the San Siro dugout. Former Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim was appointed the club’s new head coach last month.Milan’s fifth-placed finish saw them qualify for the Europa League, however, an improvement on having no involvement in continental football during the 2025-26 campaign.Allegri previously managed Milan for three-and-a-half years between 2010-14 before returning in 2025 to replace Sergio Conceicao who had only been in charge for five months. In total in his second time around with Milan, Allegri took charge of 42 games, winning 22, drawing 10 and losing 10.Allegri is a six-time Scudetto winner, having led Milan to the title in 2010-11 before five successive league triumphs with Juventus between 2015 and 2019.
