“One examination does not determine your worth or your future.” That was the message from Opposition Leader Penelope Beckles to the thousands of students receiving their Secondary Entrance Assessment (SEA) results. In a statement issued ahead of the release of the results last night, Beckles urged students not to allow their secondary school placement to define their future.“I encourage every student to remember that the school you are placed in today does not determine your future success. Your character, commitment, resilience, and willingness to continue learning will shape the person you become. Believe in yourselves, work diligently, and never allow setbacks to define your potential,” she said.Beckles also congratulated students on reaching what she described as “a significant milestone and the beginning of an exciting new chapter” after years of hard work, sacrifice, determination and perseverance. “As the clock strikes 11 p.m., many of you will take your first step toward new opportunities, new friendships, and new dreams. We are proud of all that you have accomplished,” she said. She thanked teachers, parents, guardians and everyone who supported students throughout their SEA journey. “Your dedication has played an invaluable role in helping them reach this important milestone,” Beckles said.Addressing parents and guardians, Beckles encouraged them to continue reassuring and supporting their children regardless of their results. “Your love, reassurance, and guidance will help them understand that one examination does not define their worth or determine the limitless potential of their future,” she said. She ended by praying that God would continue to bless and guide the nation’s children as they begin the next stage of their education.TTUTA: No undue pressureThe Trinidad and Tobago Unified Teachers’ Association (TTUTA) has also sent out congratulations to SEA students. TTUTA also urged parents to support and encourage their children regardless of the schools to which they are assigned. In a news release yesterday, TTUTA president Crystal Ashe congratulated the 17,509 students who completed the examination and reminded parents that a child’s future is not determined by the name of a secondary school.“Celebrate your child’s efforts and achievements regardless of the secondary school to which they are assigned. Please refrain from placing undue pressure on your children concerning school placement,” Ashe said.“Remember that a child’s success is not determined by the name of a school, but by the values they uphold, the discipline they cultivate, the opportunities they embrace and the support they continue to receive from home and school.”He said parents’ words of encouragement and reassurance during this period could have a lasting positive impact on their children’s confidence and future success. Ashe described the completion of the SEA examination as “the culmination of years of hard work, perseverance and determination” by students, supported by parents, guardians, teachers, principals and the wider school community. He also thanked teachers for their commitment and sacrifices in preparing pupils for the examination.“I take this opportunity to express my sincere appreciation to every member of the Teaching Service for your yeoman service, unwavering commitment and countless sacrifices in preparing our nation’s children for this important examination. Your professionalism, dedication and passion continue to inspire excellence and shape the future of Trinidad and Tobago. TTUTA proudly salutes each of you for your outstanding contribution to education,” Ashe said.He encouraged students not to let their school placement define their ambitions. “The school to which you are assigned does not determine your destiny. Success is achieved through discipline, perseverance, resilience and a commitment to continuous learning. Wherever you are placed, embrace every opportunity, work diligently, respect your teachers and classmates, and strive to become the very best version of yourselves.”Calling the students the nation’s future leaders, innovators, educators, entrepreneurs and nation builders, Ashe urged them to “dream boldly, work tirelessly and never allow obstacles to define your potential.”He further assured students, parents and the wider public that TTUTA would continue advocating for improved teaching and learning conditions in schools across the country.“We remain steadfast in our commitment to advocating for the very best teaching and learning conditions in every school throughout Trinidad and Tobago, We will continue to work collaboratively with all stakeholders, including the Ministry of Education, school leaders, teachers, parents, education partners and our social partners, to ensure that every child has access to a safe, inclusive and enriching educational environment.”Ashe reminded students that SEA was only the beginning of their educational journey. “SEA is not the destination, it is simply the beginning of an exciting new chapter. Believe in yourselves, continue to work hard, pursue excellence in all that you do, and never stop reaching for your dreams,” he said.
