After starring together in 1994, the paths of Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt never really crossed again amid speculation of an 'intense feud' between the Hollywood A-listers10:06, 03 Jul 2026They were arguably Hollywood's two biggest heartthrobs in the 1990s, and still regularly top the box office today, but did you know they were the subject of an "intense feud"? Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt are among the biggest stars in Tinseltown's history - not just for their acting skills, but also their looks.‌Tom shot to stardom following his role as Captain Pete 'Maverick' Mitchell in 1986's Top Gun, and later became best known for starring as Ethan Hunt in all seven Mission Impossible films. Brad, meanwhile, earned plaudits after appearing in Thelma & Louise in 1991, before his breakthrough role portraying vampire Louis de Pointe du Lac in 1994 horror Interview with the Vampire - in which Tom also appeared.‌It was later reported that the pair were the subject of on-set tension, with both stars admitting production was a deeply uncomfortable experience. In a 1995 interview with Premiere, Brad, now 62, admitted that he and Tom were very different people, in a way that ultimately began to "bug" him.‌"You gotta understand, Tom and I are… we walk in different directions," he elaborated. "He's North Pole. I'm South. He's coming at you with a handshake, where I may bump into you, I may not, you know?"I always thought there was this underlying competition that got in the way of any real conversation. It wasn't nasty by any means, not at all. But it was just there and it bugged me a bit."‌However, he did offer some respectful words towards his co-star, adding: "But I'll tell you, he catches a lot of s*** because he's on top, but he's a good actor and he advances in the film. He did it. I mean, you have to respect that."Since 1994, the duo appear to have carefully avoided collaborating on any projects, although they came close in 2018's Ford v Ferrari, only for initial production to be scrapped due to budget problems after a script read through. Matt Damon and Christian Bale later took on their roles when the project resumed. In 2025, Tom was noticeably absent from the Formula 1 Grand Prix at Silverstone - an event he rarely misses - which coincided with Brad filming F1: The Movie there. Tom, 63, was also said to be annoyed that Top Gun: Maverick director Joseph Kosinski was helming the project.‌A video later circulated online of the stars engaging in a brutal punch-up on a rooftop, but all was not as it seemed - the clip was a fake created with Artificial Intelligence.Everything changed, however, at the premiere of F1: The Movie at Leicester Square's Cineworld. Fans were astonished to see Tom and Brad embracing in front of the cameras and laughing in each other's company before heading inside for the screening.Article continues belowDespite online body-language analysts dissecting their handshakes, Tom later posted warm photos with Brad on social media, captioning the event as a 'Great Night at the Movies', seemingly to dispel the feud rumours at last.Brad, on the other hand, joked that he remains "bitter" that Tom overtook him on the final corner of a go-karting race while filming Interview with the Vampire. In a video interview shared to YouTube, he also openly stated he would love to work with Tom again - as long as he doesn't have to hang from airplanes à la Mission Impossible.
