There are thousands of miles of coastline in the UK, but one beach has been named the best in the country by Time Out, and it's a favourite amongst visitors to the island08:39, 03 Jul 2026Those fortunate enough to have set foot on this breathtaking stretch of coastline will find it little surprise to see it crowned number one on Time Out's list of the finest beaches in the UK.It's not nestled along the Cornish coast or hidden within a quaint Devon seaside town — instead, Britain's best beach is found on a small Welsh island. With the UK's coastline spanning thousands of miles and boasting around 1,500 beaches, not all are worth the journey, but this much-loved gem is proving difficult to top.Anglesey in Wales is no stranger to visitors, with tourists continuing to flock to the destination just off the northwest coast of the mainland. Accessible via the 19th-century Menai Suspension Bridge, the island offers travellers a truly immersive escape into nature and, naturally, the tranquil seaside.Time Out named Traeth Llanddwyn, also known as Newborough Beach, as the definitive top beach in the UK, citing its "heavenly views wherever you turn". Boasting cream-coloured sands, wildflower-dotted dunes and a lush forest as its backdrop, it feels like a genuine slice of paradise, largely unspoilt by human interference.Framed by the dramatic silhouettes of Eryri National Park's peaks, the scenery is truly unrivalled, offering the perfect spot to soak up the sun while gazing at the mountains beyond. What makes it even more remarkable is that, stretching an impressive 2.5 miles in length, it never feels crowded or overrun with tourists. One visitor shared their experience on TripAdvisor, writing: "Gorgeous beach! Where the forest meets the sand, never seen anything like it before. quite long and spacious, so not crammed full of people."Parking charge, huge car park. Could spend all day here. Toilets available. Beautiful drive coming to the beach."Another shared: "Wow. One of the best beaches we have been to ever. Spectacular views, space and adjoining forest area for walking too. The wall and views walking Llanddwyn small island, are breathtaking. Photos cannot do it justice and loads of parking for beach access too."Fortunately, parking doesn't appear to pose a problem for visitors keen to make the trip, though a car is essential and really the only practical way to reach this tucked-away treasure. Public transport simply doesn't get you close enough to the spot, located on the southwestern tip of Anglesey.Article continues belowIn boldly crowning it the finest beach in Britain, Time Out included a useful 'insider tip' with an activity recommendation. Given the beach's tranquil waters, it's an ideal location for paddleboarding, with kit available to hire from Hiareth Hire for £45 for a full day.Beyond the sand and surf, Traeth Llanddwyn is also home to the eye-catching whitewashed lighthouse, Tŵr Mawr. The windmill-style structure stands serenely on the scenic tidal island of Ynys Llanddwyn, just off the Anglesey coast. It can only be reached via a picturesque coastal walk of roughly two miles, usually taking between 30 and 40 minutes each way. This makes for the perfect adventure for those who've had enough of sunbathing and fancy seeing the stunning beach from a completely different perspective.
