Kate Garraway and Ranvir Singh shared a heartbreaking story live on Good Morning Britain08:18, 03 Jul 2026Updated 08:19, 03 Jul 2026Good Morning Britain aired a heartbreaking interview during the latest live show.‌Hosts Ranvir Singh and Kate Garraway returned to the ITV studio on Friday (July 3), where they interviewed a woman who went through forced adoption.‌An estimated 185,000 babies were taken from mothers in the three decades after World War Two. Thousands of mothers were pressured into giving up babies for adoption because they were unmarried, including former Labour MP Ann Keen.‌Just moments before speaking to Ann, Kate said: "It's absolutely heartbreaking. This happened to a friend of mine actually, and it's devastating."Introducing the guest, Ranvir began by reading out a part of the government's apology to the mothers, saying: "The shame was never yours, the shame is ours."‌Ann then recalled the traumatic events that led up to her losing her newborn son at the age of 17, saying: "How we were treated was like we were sinners. We had no rights or responsibility for anything."Ranvir noted: "Even during childbirth, you were in pain as you would be, but you were being told by the midwife that this is your punishment. They were tearing you, essentially, to get the baby out without any help, without any painkillers, as a punishment to you."Ann went on: "It's unbelievable that happened in an NHS hospital... I was asking for some pain control and they said, 'No, you're not having any pain control because you don't deserve any. You're a bad girl.'‌"I was being stitched without any anesthetic. When I moved, the doctor slapped my leg to say, 'Don't move! You shouldn't be moving!'"Both Kate and Ranvir were left speechless by this detail, and appeared visibly moved as Ann continued: "You immediately then start to feel that you are in the wrong, because that was a constant feeling to you.""Oh my goodness," Kate later said as Ann recalled the moment she was kept away from her son, as he was "waiting for his new mummy".‌The nurse later grabbed Ann's breast and said: "You won't be needing this milk. Let's get rid of this now," to which Ranvir said: "It's like an assault." Kate went on to support Ann by reassuring her that she didn't give up her child, but was "forced to".Ann has since met her son, Mark, who immediately reassured her that she hadn't done anything wrong.‌GMB viewers were also left stunned after hearing Ann's ordeal, with many sharing their anger and upset on social media."What the hell am I hearing!! This is barbaric!!
