The Minister of Youth Development, Olawande Emmanuel Ayodele, has clarified that the Nigerian government has not approved the replacement of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) khaki uniform with Adire fabric, contrary to widespread reports that followed his appearance on Channels Television.
The minister made the clarification in a statement posted on his Facebook page on Thursday after media reports suggested that the government had concluded plans to adopt Adire as the new official uniform for corps members as part of the recently approved NYSC reforms.
According to Olawande, his comments during the television interview were misconstrued.
“My attention has been drawn to some media reports following my brief appearance earlier this morning on Channels TV regarding the ongoing reforms of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), particularly on the issue of the proposed uniform,” he wrote.
