The second prosecution witness in the trial of two men accused of impersonating officials of the Economic andFinancial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has told the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court in Abuja, how one of the defendants allegedly posed as the personal assistant to EFCC Chairman, Ola Olukoyede, in an attempt to obtain $700,000 from former Nigerian Ports Authority Managing Director, Mohammed Bello Koko.
The witness, Akeem Lasisi, testified before Justice J.O. Onwuegbuzie that the first defendant, Ojobo Joshua, claimed to be the EFCC chairman's personal assistant while allegedly working with the second defendant, Aliyu Hashim, to extort the former NPA boss.
The EFCC is prosecuting the two defendants on an amended four-count charge bordering on impersonation, conspiracy and obtaining by false pretence involving the sum of $700,000.
While being led in evidence by prosecution counsel, Elizabeth Alabi, Lasisi told the court that he headed Team A of the EFCC Cybercrime Unit in 2024 when he was assigned to investigate intelligence reports indicating that some individuals were impersonating EFCC officials.
