July 2 (UPI) -- An 11-year-old boy driving his parents' truck crashed into a Buddhist procession in Thailand, killing nine and seriously injuring 14 more.

The boy had stayed home sick from school and took the truck, using a key that had been left in the car, driving into the group of 35 monks after he lost control of the vehicle.

Five monks died at the scene of the crash, with four more later dying at the hospital, The New York Times, reported.

"The suspect is a child," Police Major General Pairoj Thaiphutsa told The BBC.
