The extent of Lagrange’s injury was not immediately known, but the move was a setback for someone who was expected to be in the Yankees’ major league bullpen soon. Lagrange last pitched for the RailRiders on June 28, allowing four hits, two walks and five earned runs in 2/3 innings.Lagrange started to make the transition from starting pitcher to reliever in early June, as the Yankees anticipated him making an impact in their bullpen before the trade deadline. That timeline may now be on pause.
The right-handed pitcher started to catch people’s attention earlier this year, after striking out Aaron Judge on a 102.6 mph fastball in spring training. That was the first sign that Lagrange was possibly becoming a key player to watch.Keith Law's Big Board for the 2026 MLB DraftKeith Law“The exciting thing for me was really being around him for the first time day by day (in spring training),” Yankees manager Aaron Boone said last month. “Seeing in person the competitor, how he works, and who he is. (All of that), coupled with — in spring training, you love to see a young guy go out there and perform and do well and relish the competition. So, there’s a lot of positives there. I think we all had the thought of maybe he could impact us in some way, shape or form throughout the year.”New York’s bullpen could use an upgrade before next month’s trade deadline. Camilo Doval, who was expected to be a key reliever for the Yankees this season, has been a disappointment. The Yankees could use at least one more high-leverage reliever in their bullpen before the deadline passes. Lagrange, whose fastball has been clocked at 103 mph, could have emerged as that option. But that is now up in the air. This story will be updated.
