The Federal Government on Thursday said the Nigerian Digital Postcode system would support credible elections and population censuses by providing accurate location intelligence to government institutions, while also improving service delivery, national security and financial inclusion.

The Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr Bosun Tijani, said this at the National Digital Alphanumeric Postcode System Workshop for ministries, departments and agencies, as well as subnational governments, at the Abuja Continental Hotel.

Tijani was represented by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Nadungu Gagare. He described the digital postcode as critical national digital infrastructure rather than merely a postal addressing system.

According to him, “The Nigerian Digital Postcode represents far more than an improvement to postal services. It is a strategic national asset. It is a critical digital public infrastructure that supports service delivery, strengthens governance, enhances national security, promotes financial inclusion, improves logistics and e-commerce, facilitates healthcare deliveries, supports educational planning, enables credible census and electoral processes, and provides the geospatial intelligence required for evidence-based policy making.”
