More than 600,000 bags of Utz-manufactured potato chips, including Zapp’s and Dirty brand varieties, have been escalated to the FDA’s most severe recall category due to potential Salmonella contamination.Three flavors of Dirty chips and three flavors of the New Orleans-themed Zapp's brand potato chips were subject to a recall that was upgraded to a Class I warning on June 24.The FDA classifies a Class I recall as "a situation in which there is reasonable probability that the use of or exposure to a violative product will cause serious adverse health consequences or death."The recalled products have best-by dates from July 27 through August 31, 2026, and can be identified by specific batch codes on the packaging.Utz first issued a voluntary recall on April 28, with the FDA following with a notice about a week later.
