Governor of Bayelsa State, Duoye Diri.

The Bayelsa State Government has constituted a five-member interim board to oversee the affairs of Bayelsa United FC for the next six months following the club’s relegation from the Nigeria Premier Football League.

Governor Douye Diri had, two weeks ago, dissolved the club’s board during a meeting of the State Executive Council at the Government House, Yenagoa, after Bayelsa United was relegated at the end of the 2025/2026 NPFL season.

The appointment of the interim board was announced on Thursday by the Deputy Governor, Dr Peter Akpe, during the weekly Prosperity Walk at the Samson Siasia Stadium in Yenagoa.

Akpe said the committee’s immediate assignment was to secure the club’s return to the NPFL within six months, stressing that Bayelsa United should not remain in the second tier for long.
