Tens of thousands of people joined an online queue, which at one point had a nine-hour wait, resulting in the museum's website experiencing 4.7 times its average daily traffic. The historic Bayeux Tapestry, depicting the Battle of Hastings, will be displayed on British soil for the first time in nearly 1,000 years, from September 2026 to July 2027. Dr Nicholas Cullinan OBE, director of the British Museum, stated that the unprecedented demand reflects the public's significant appetite for arts and culture.
