Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC) Kerala State president R. Chandrasekharan said on Thursday (July 2, 2026) that all decisions in the Kerala State Cashew Development Corporation (KSCDC), when he was its chairperson, were taken unanimously by the board of directors and the chairperson alone cannot be held responsible for them.Mr. Chandrasekharan was addressing a press conference in Thiruvananthapuram in connection with the government decision to grant sanction to prosecute him and former KSCDC managing director K.A. Ratheesh in the alleged corruption in the import of raw cashew.Reacting to the decision, Mr. Chandrasekharan said he “welcomed” it. He further said that the investigation covered a 10-year period from 2005 to 2015, but he was chairperson only from 2012 to 2015. The KSCDC director board included two State government representatives—the secretaries for Finance and Industries—apart from union representatives and political nominees. “The director board is fully responsible for any decision taken in the corporation. When I was chairperson, all decisions were taken unanimously. The responsibility for unanimous decisions cannot be placed solely on the chairperson or the managing director,” he said.INTUC State general secretary V.J. Joseph, who was present, said the INTUC did not fear the prosecution. The INTUC was convinced that Mr. Chandrasekharan was not involved in any corruption. During Mr. Chandrasekharan’s tenure as the KSCDC chairperson, raw cashew to the tune of ₹224 crore was purchased. No cashew was imported.
