Twenty years after the people of Midjil gave him his first electoral victory, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy will return to the mandal in the combined Mahabubnagar district on July 4 to thank them in what is being planned as an emotional thanksgiving meeting marking two decades of his public life. The visit is significant as Midjil was where Mr. Reddy entered electoral politics, winning as an independent ZPTC member in 2006. That victory became the launching pad for a political career that saw him rise through the ranks as MLC, MLA, Member of Parliament, Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president and eventually - Chief Minister. According to sources close to the Chief Minister, the programme has been designed not as a political rally but as a gesture of gratitude to the people who first reposed faith in him. Mr. Reddy has often acknowledged that Midjil gave him his political identity and credits the affection and blessings of its people for shaping his public life. The Chief Minister’s visit will begin with prayers and special rituals at the Urukonda temple, where he will also lay the foundation stone for temple development works. He will later have an informal lunch with local elders, senior leaders, long-time associates and supporters who stood by him during the early years of his political career. He is also scheduled to unveil the statues of former leader Gopal Reddy and Dr. B.R. Ambedkar near Midjil before addressing a public meeting. In his speech, the Chief Minister is expected to reflect on his two-decade political journey and express gratitude to the people of the mandal for their enduring support.Mr Revanth Reddy contested his first election as an independent candidate and won the Midjil ZPTC seat in 2006. He followed it up with another victory in the Mahabubnagar local bodies MLC election in 2007, again as an independent. He later joined the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and was elected MLA from Kodangal in 2009 and 2014.After joining the Congress, he won the Malkajgiri Lok Sabha constituency and emerged as one of the party’s prominent leaders in Telangana. As TPCC president, he spearheaded the Congress campaign in the 2023 Assembly elections, leading the party to power. He was sworn in as the Chief Minister on December 7, 2023.Though his political journey has taken him to the highest office in the State, Mr Reddy has chosen to celebrate the 20-year milestone where it all began. His return to Midjil is expected to be both symbolic and emotional - a Chief Minister revisiting the place that first trusted him with public office. Published - July 02, 2026 07:07 pm IST
