In a major step towards industrialisation of the Rayalaseema region, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu will launch the construction works of the JSW Rayalaseema Integrated Steel Plant at Sunnapurallapalli and Peddandluru villages in Kadapa district on July 3 (Friday). The commencement of construction transforms a long-pending aspiration into reality and reaffirms the State government’s commitment to make Rayalaseema a manufacturing and green industrial hub, says an official release. The integrated steel plant will be developed by the JSW Andhra Pradesh Steel Limited in two phases over 1,100 acres with a total investment of ₹16,350 crore, including ₹4,500 crore in the first phase. The project had originally been approved in 2019. It had witnessed foundation ceremonies in 2019 and again in 2023. Despite repeated announcements, the project failed to progress beyond the initial stage for various reasons. After the formation of the NDA government in 2024, the project was revived through sustained engagement with the JSW, resolution of long-pending issues, timely policy decisions, and coordinated action across departments, enabling it to finally enter the execution phase.Designed as a modern ‘green steel’ facility, the Rayalaseema Steel Plant will adopt scrap-based electric arc furnace technology powered by renewable energy, which significantly reduces carbon emissions. The project is expected to generate thousands of direct and indirect employment opportunities, promote ancillary industries across Rayalaseema, and strengthen Andhra Pradesh’s emergence as one of India’s leading steel-producing States.
