Police Stats Western Cape Premier Alan Winde and Provincial Minister of Police and Community Oversight Anroux Marais have welcomed the appointment of Major General Luyanda Damoyi as acting Provincial Police Commissioner.
The appointment of Major General Luyanda Damoyi as the acting Provincial Police Commissioner for the Western Cape has been welcomed by Premier Alan Winde and Anroux Marais, the Provincial Minister of Police and Community Oversight.
Premier Winde highlighted that Major General Damoyi possesses extensive knowledge and expertise, particularly from his previous tenure as Deputy Provincial Commissioner under Lieutenant General Thembisile Patekile.
The Premier emphasised the urgent need for Major General Damoyi to focus on securing improved resources for the region, pointing out that the South African Police Service (SAPS) in the Western Cape is currently grappling with major resource limitations.
Furthermore, Premier Winde advocated for faster progress in talks regarding the decentralization of critical policing operations. This includes enhancing the intelligence capacities of metro police services and broadening their investigative authority.
