Cameron Ross was a serving Police Scotland officer at the time of his offences, which took place in Inverness and on the Isle of Lewis between 2012 and 202213:14, 02 Jul 2026A police officer who raped two women and domestically abused a third has been jailed.Cameron Ross, 39, was serving as a Police Scotland officer at the time of his offences, which he carried out in Inverness and on the Isle of Lewis between 2012 and 2022.The disgraced officer was found guilty at a trial at the High Court in Edinburgh in May, including two rape charges and one of attempting to pervert the course of justice.Today, Ross, whose address was given as Inverness, was sentenced to 10 years in prison at the same court. Issuing her sentence on Ross, Judge Alison Stirling said: "The reasons for this sentence include punishment, expressing society’s concern about and disapproval of your offending, protection of the public, and rehabilitation in a custodial setting."The evidence presented to the court showed that the twisted offender engaged in a pattern of sexual and physical abuse against women. Prosecutors said he was responsible for "sustained offending" and persistently broke the law.Along with his prison sentence, Ross was also put on the sex offenders' register indefinitely. When reports regarding his crimes were first received in June 2022, he was "immediately" suspended from his role and has since resigned.Chief Superintendent Helen Harrison, head of professional standards at Police Scotland, explained that, had Ross not resigned, a gross misconduct hearing would have taken place and he would have been dismissed. Ch Supt Harrison said: "Cameron Ross has been convicted for repeatedly abusing and sexually abusing women."We’ve worked closely with the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service to achieve this outcome. [...] I want to thank those who came forward and recognise how difficult that can be when the perpetrator is a police officer."She added: "Ross’ actions go against everything Police Scotland stands for. Our thoughts are with the victims in this case and I hope this conviction provides them with some measure of closure."I commend their strength in reporting these crimes and bringing this individual to justice. We want the public to be reassured that all reports are thoroughly investigated, no matter when the offending took place or who is involved."All officers are bound by our Standards of Professional Behaviour, which apply on and off duty. Any instance where an officer fails to uphold our standards will be investigated and appropriate action taken."Article continues belowFaye Cook, the procurator fiscal for High Court sexual offences, urged anyone affected by similar offending to come forward. She said: "Cameron Ross carried out deliberate and repeated acts of abuse against women over the course of a decade."This was sustained offending, which caused significant harm. As a police officer, he was in a position of trust. Instead of upholding the law, he chose to break it in a serious and persistent way."I would urge anyone affected by similar offending to come forward and report it. The Crown is committed to prosecuting those responsible for sexual and domestic abuse, regardless of who they are."
