Imagine being served a slice each of 30 different cakes? 75-odd cake lovers in the capital city were treated to this experience when they turned up at Lemon Tree Premier, Thycaud, last weekend for the second edition of Cake Picnic, where 30 home bakers spread out the best/favourite cakes from their kitchen.Cake Picnic has been curated by Saumya Thomas and Tessa, who became “friends once they bonded over food, décor and other creative things”. Tessa says, “We kept bumping into each other at various events in the city. When we became friends on Instagram, we shared reels of Cake Picnic organised in other parts of the world. Since Cake Picnic has already been held in Kochi and Kozhikode, we thought of one here in Thiruvananthapuram.”Saumya adds that the concept, which began in the US, was a huge event with thousands of cakes being showcased. “There, you can enter only with a cake. We worked around the idea and decided to do it our way. The first edition [held last month] was a private event with 15 bakers, most of them our friends or friends of friends, held at one of the bakers’ homes. The reels of that event organically got a lot of traction, and that’s when people started asking about another edition, that too as a public event,” says Saumya.
