Earlier this week, Palestinian goalkeeper Saleem Al-Ashqar was killed in Gaza by the Israeli army, the Palestinian Football Association (PFA) announced.
Al-Ashqar, a 32-year-old Palestinian goalkeeper, was killed on Monday after being shot by the Israeli Defence Force (IDF) in Al-Qarara, northeast of Khan Younis, in the southern Gaza Strip, according to WAFA, the Palestinian news agency.
PFA stated he was among hundreds of Palestinian sports figures who have been killed, including over 1,000 athletes, since the start of the genocidal war in October 2023.
Al-Ashqar married five months ago, and his wife is now expecting their first child.
