A Swedish television network reported that an employee of the Swedish Migration Agency has been dismissed from their position after being accused of transferring confidential information to intelligence agents of the Islamic Republic.

According to a report by TV4, the employee had access to sensitive data concerning Iranian dissidents, Iranian asylum seekers, and, in some instances, Afghan asylum seekers residing in Sweden. The individual stands accused of passing this classified information directly to an Iranian intelligence operative.

The report indicated that the Swedish Security Service (SÄPO) had placed the individual, whose identity has not been disclosed, under surveillance. TV4 noted that the employee had allegedly been in contact with Islamic Republic intelligence operatives since 2016, providing them with data extracted from the Migration Agency’s internal database.

The Swedish Security Service has declined to comment on the ongoing case.

The employee has denied all allegations, claiming to be an opponent of the Islamic Republic and a supporter of Reza Pahlavi. Nonetheless, a Swedish court has upheld the dismissal as lawful.
