The Bulls will look to reach new heights in the Champions Cup after fighting their way into the playoffs of the elite tournament this past season with a memorable away victory over Pau in France.
South Africa’s three franchises in the Champions Cup were handed a mixed bag after the group stages for the 2026/27 season were confirmed this week, with the Stormers, Bulls and Lions all facing very different opponents.
For the Cape side, they arguably received the toughest assignment in Pool 3 and they are very much again in the so-called ‘Group of Death’. The Stormers arguably have the toughest assignment against back-to-back champions Bordeaux Bègles, while Racing 92, Bristol Bears and Gloucester are the other sides alongside fellow URC team Munster.
It is a pool packed with quality, and teams that follow varied gameplans. So, John Dobson and his men can expect a couple of hostile away trips. However, after making it out of the toughest pool for the last two seasons, the Cape side will back themselves to challenge for another knockout spot.
Should they turn home advantage into solid victories and pinch a result on the road, a playoff place is well within their reach.
