Brooke George's case has sparked a string of unanswered questions as the British TikToker awaits trial in Dubai, from a mystery delivery driver and potential key witnesses, to whether the UK police will open their own investigation09:45, 02 Jul 2026As the 23-year-old Brit’s case unfolds, several key questions remain unanswered.‌Brooke George, a TikTok influencer from Gravesend, Kent, has been charged with premeditated murder over the fatal stabbing of 26-year-old Brit William Treeby in Dubai. If convicted, she could face the death penalty by firing squad.‌George says she acted in self-defence during a violent attack. Her family say she had suffered repeated domestic abuse during the relationship, and her mum claims she booked a flight home after George became frightened of Treeby.‌According to her family, Treeby withheld her passport to stop her leaving the UAE. They claimed he punched George when she demanded it back, prompting her to grab a kitchen knife as she feared for her life. After her arrest, George said she was denied access to a lawyer and was “forced to strip naked in front of male officers, without any female officers present”. She described the experience as “deeply humiliating and distressing”, with her family saying she broke down in tears while recounting what had happened. While much has emerged since George was charged, several aspects of the case remain unclear. Here are five of the biggest questions that have yet to be answered and what we know so far.‌What do we know about the witnesses who could hold key evidence? It has been reported that five people were at Treeby’s apartment on the night of the fatal stabbing, including George, Treeby, two of his male friends and a maid, with one of the men understood to be wanted by Kent Police. It is understood at least one of Treeby’s friends contacted multiple people in Britain shortly after his death.‌While it remains unclear where the witnesses are, campaigners believe those calls, along with information stored on the men’s mobile phones, could prove crucial to the investigation. They say the data could help establish a timeline of events, identify additional witnesses and preserve key evidence.Who is the mystery driver?A mystery driver who was reportedly with George and Treeby before the fatal stabbing could hold key evidence in the case.‌George’s mum, Tess, claimed another man - who she says also lived at Treeby’s apartment - unexpectedly joined the couple while they were out in Dubai. She told The Sun he drove them to a bar, despite George and Treeby previously travelling everywhere alone. Her mum said the man left her feeling “scared” which led to her family arranging a flight home.According to Tess, the man also travelled with the pair back to Treeby’s apartment, where George had gone to collect her passport before the stabbing. The George family believe he could help investigators establish what happened in the hours leading up to Treeby’s death. However, little is publicly known about the man’s identity, whether he has been traced or if he has spoken to investigators.‌What happened between Brooke George and William Treeby before the fatal stabbing?George and Treeby are believed to have met on social media before striking up an online relationship. George later travelled to Dubai to visit him and, during her first trip, was taken to luxury restaurants, beach clubs and beauty spots across the city.George’s mum, Tess, said her daughter returned to the UK believing she had met “the man of my dreams” after Treeby made her feel “special”. But she claimed things changed during George's second visit, when her daughter was left alone for long periods and became increasingly unhappy.‌Tess said: “The second time she flew out, those three days, she was on her own almost the whole entire time during the days, just being left at the apartment.“There were other people there that lived with him and they were coming in and out and going in and out together. But as far as she knew, that was to do with whatever business he was running out there.”She also claimed George noticed a change in the atmosphere inside the apartment. She told The Sun: “There were people talking… conversations that they kept walking out for. The feel of the apartment and the other guys in there, the dynamic felt different.”‌What do we know about William Treeby’s background?Treeby, 26, was due to stand trial at Maidstone Crown Court accused of conspiracy to supply cocaine following an investigation by Kent Police’s County Lines and Gangs Team.He was one of seven defendants charged in the case, which also involved one of the men understood to have shared his apartment in Dubai. Court records also showed Treeby had previous convictions for unlawful wounding and common assault, for which he received a 14-month prison sentence, suspended for two years. It has now been claimed that Treeby had a partner back home in the UK, a wife named Ellie.‌She posted a devastated update to Facebook mourning Treeby following his death last month, saying that a part of her "died with you". She wrote: "To My Bill. Words can’t describe how I’m feeling right now. Apart [sic] of me has died with you. The world is cruel until we meet again love you forever from your ell Nelly and Lottie."Treeby and Ellie described themselves as husband and wife in their social media profiles, and were snapped together in dozens of photos during holidays in the UAE and at home in the UK.‌Will UK police investigate?Campaigners have urged Kent Police to launch its own investigation into George’s case, arguing key witnesses and evidence could still be in Britain.Detained in Dubai chief executive Radha Stirling said the organisation had submitted intelligence to “the appropriate UK authorities, the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office, the UAE authorities and His Excellency Mansoor Abdullah Khalfan Juma Abulhoul, the UAE Ambassador to the United Kingdom.”She said the organisation was also working with George's local MP in Kent to ensure “every available investigative and forensic avenue is pursued”.Article continues belowStirling added: “Where a young British citizen is facing the possibility of the death penalty overseas, there must be a diligent, impartial and comprehensive investigation, with every reasonable effort made to identify, preserve and examine relevant evidence. Justice cannot depend upon incomplete evidence or overlooked lines of enquiry.”However, it remained unclear whether Kent Police will launch its own investigation or what role, if any, British authorities could play while criminal proceedings continue in Dubai.
