UPL has said that strict legal and financial action will be initiated against any entities found violating its intellectual property rights.A media statement said that the company has intensified its action against the manufacturing and sale of suspected lookalike versions of its patented herbicides Triskele (marketed by UPL SAS) and Trishuk (marketed by SWAL), following enforcement-led raids in Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Punjab.According to the company, it identified products in the market with branding and packaging closely resembling Trishuk and Triskele, sold at significantly lower prices, potentially creating confusion among farmers. The statement said that UPL conducted raids, with the help of enforcement authorities, in Muzaffarnagar and Sikandarabad in Uttar Pradesh; Karnal in Haryana; and Dera Bassi in Punjab in May and June.During these raids, the authorities seized materials at the manufacturing units, and collected crucial evidence related to distribution networks and their associated parties. The company has indicated that this matter will be pursued through appropriate legal channels, and subject to findings, necessary action will be taken against involved entities.Manufacturers of lookalike products have adopted brand names and packaging that closely resemble the original products in an attempt to create confusion among consumers, it said. The company has reaffirmed that it will pursue all necessary legal measures to protect its intellectual property, including action against manufacturers, distributors and retailers found to be involved in the sale of products that infringe or appear to infringe its rights. The company also urged farmers and channel partners to remain vigilant while purchasing crop protection products. It is advised to carefully verify the product packaging, manufacturing and expiry details and other key product information before making a purchase. UPL cautioned that products sold at unusually low prices may not be genuine and could adversely affect crop performance over the long term. The company statement said: “We want to send a clear message that any individual or entity found manufacturing, offering for sale, selling or importing products that infringe UPL’s intellectual property rights will face strict legal action. Accountability extends across the value chain - manufacturers, distributors, dealers and sellers involved in the sale of such products may be held liable under the law.“We urge stakeholders dealing in 2,4-D Sodium Salt 44%+ Metribuzin 35% + Pyrazosulfuron-Ethyl 1.0% WDG products that are not manufactured by UPL Ltd or marketed by UPL Sustainable Agri Solution Limited or Swal Corporation Ltd to immediately cease such activities and inform us. Even offering such products for sale without our authorisation may amount to infringement and attract legal consequences.”Published on July 2, 2026
