The US military announced that an American service member went missing and three others were injured following an emergency water landing by a military helicopter in the Arabian Sea.

The US Navy’s Fifth Fleet stated in a press release on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, that the three injured personnel are in stable condition, and there is currently no indication that the incident was the result of hostile action.

According to the statement, US naval forces in the region are continuing search-and-rescue operations to locate the missing service member, and the cause of the incident remains under investigation. The military added that the helicopter had been deployed on a mission from the aircraft carrier USS George H.W. Bush, which is operating in the area.

US officials noted that a water landing can be highly hazardous, even for experienced pilots, because these helicopters, due to their high centre of gravity, are prone to capsizing upon impact with water.

The incident occurred while US forces in the region remain on high alert, despite the current ceasefire established between the United States and the Islamic Republic.
