In a major boost to Andhra Pradesh’s plan to make the State a quantum hub, IBM Chairman and CEO Arvind Krishna has confirmed that Amaravati will host one of the first two IBM Quantum Computers in India, with commissioning targeted for September 2026.He said the availability of talent is one of the reasons for setting up the computer there.Arvind Krishna also said the quantum computing revolution is approaching an inflection point, stating that quantum computers are just 2–3 years away from delivering significant commercial advantages across sectors such as pharmaceuticals, materials science, financial services, logistics, cybersecurity and advanced AI.He made this announcement at a recent conference held in the US.“The announcement marks a significant milestone for Quantum Valley, Amaravati, the State’s flagship initiative to build India’s leading quantum innovation ecosystem,” a government official said.“The initiative brings together government, industry, academia and start-ups to create world-class capabilities in quantum computing, quantum communication, quantum sensing and workforce development,” he said.“With an IBM Quantum System set to be operational in Amaravati, the city is positioning itself at the forefront of India’s next technology frontier, providing researchers, start-ups and enterprises with access to cutting-edge quantum infrastructure,” he said.Published on July 2, 2026
