A record sargassum season. Quintana Roo has cleared nearly 73,000 tonnes of seaweed statewide through late June, its biggest cleanup on record. Playa del Carmen accounts for about a third, though several Cancún beaches remain clear.
Peru’s proclamation Friday. The electoral board will formally proclaim Keiko Fujimori, Peru’s first elected woman president, on July 3. Nothing changes for residents before the July 28 handover.
