Updated July 2, 2026 — 3:00pm,first published 12:49pmA man said to have been armed with a screwdriver has died while being restrained by workers and members of the public at a bottle shop in Brisbane’s north.The 36-year-old reportedly wielded a screwdriver as he caused a disturbance at Harry Brown’s – a liquor store located inside Bracken Ridge Tavern – on Wednesday night.He then lost consciousness while being restrained.Emergency services were called to the scene on Barrett Street in Bracken Ridge just after 8pm.Police officers performed CPR, but the man could not be revived.An investigation has been launched, with a report to be prepared for the coroner.Harry Brown’s and Bracken Ridge Tavern were open for business as usual on Thursday.The tavern shared its sympathies for the man’s family and friends in a statement on Facebook.“We also extend support to our staff and to members of the public who had to assist during a serious security incident,” it said.“This incident ended tragically however we commend the bravery of all those who assisted at the time.“We have been proud to be part of this community for many decades and would like the thank the community for its support today for everyone impacted by last night’s events.”Start the day with a summary of the day’s most important and interesting stories, analysis and insights.
