Folarin Balogun of the United States looks distraught after receiving a red card for a foul on Tarik Muharemovic of Bosnia and Herzegovina during their FIFA World Cup round-of-32 match.
Folarin Balogun scored and was later sent off as tournament co-hosts the United States defeated Bosnia and Herzegovina 2-0 to triumphantly reach the round of 16 of the FIFA World Cup in the early hours of Thursday morning.
The co-hosts' first World Cup knockout victory in nearly a quarter of a century — and only their second in history — sets up a highly anticipated clash with Belgium in Seattle on Monday.
Balogun's opening goal on the stroke of half-time had sent the California crowd into absolute delirium, with an estimated 30 million Americans watching the blockbuster clash across the nation.
However, the striker later saw red after a VAR intervention following a nasty clash with Bosnia's Tarik Muharemovic. Yet, even with the US forced into a resolute 10-man rearguard action, Malik Tillman curled in a sublime free-kick to comprehensively secure the win.
