The 2026 Hollywoodbets Durban July is expected to inject close to R1 billion into the eThekwini economy, highlighting the dramatic turnaround of South Africa's horse racing industry following years of financial hardship.

The country's premier horse racing and social event, which carries a R10 million prize pool, will feature 18 of South Africa's top thoroughbreds and is expected to attract more than 45,000 spectators from around the country.

Last year's event generated an estimated socio-economic impact of R840 million, up from R690 million in 2024.

According to Hollywood Sportsbook Group (Hollywoodbets) brand and communications manager Devin Heffer, the success of the Hollywoodbets Durban July reflects the broader recovery of the horse racing industry.
