The Pretoria High Court has the most outstanding judgments which has been reserved for six months or more.
Outstanding judgments in courts around the country remain a problem, with the latest report issued by the Chief Justice reflecting that at the beginning of the last term last year, a total of 1,778 judgments were reported as reserved.
A total of 301 of these judgments, representing an overall 17% of the reserved matters, had been outstanding for more than six months. The remaining 1,477 judgments, representing an overall 83%, had been reserved for less than six months.
The front runners in the highest percentage of reserved judgments outstanding for more than six months were in the Gauteng High Court, Pretoria, with 18% (54 out of 301 matters).
The latest report reflects matters as they stood at the last term, which started on November 1, 2025, for the Constitutional Court, the Supreme Court of Appeal, and the Labour Appeals Court. The term commenced on October 6, 2025, for the High Courts, Labour Courts, and the Land Court.
