India's largest private fuel retailer, Nayara Energy, has reduced petrol prices by Rs 5 per litre and diesel prices by Rs 3 per litre across its nationwide network. The revised rates came into effect on Wednesday at all of the company's more than 7,000 fuel stations, making it the first retail fuel price cut by any company in over two years. The move follows a decline in international crude oil prices after tensions in West Asia eased and the reopening of a key maritime route improved the flow of crude oil and liquefied natural gas (LNG), reducing concerns over global supply disruptions. However, state-run oil marketing companies (OMCs) — Indian Oil Corporation (IOC), Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL) and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd (HPCL) — have not revised fuel prices. The three public sector companies, which operate more than 90% of India's fuel retail network, continue to maintain existing rates. At IOC outlets in Delhi, petrol remains priced at Rs 102.12 per litre, while diesel continues to cost Rs 95.20 per litre. Nayara Energy had earlier increased petrol prices by Rs 5 per litre and diesel prices by Rs 3 per litre on March 26 after the Iran conflict pushed up global crude oil prices. Public sector OMCs later raised petrol and diesel prices by a cumulative Rs 7.50 per litre each during the second half of May, citing higher international crude prices and increased product costs. The latest reduction by Nayara effectively reverses its March price hike and marks the first retail fuel price cut after global oil markets stabilised in recent weeks.
